So I don't really want my blog named after one of the shops, but something that reflects my life. Hmmm. Any suggestions will be thoroughly appreciated!:)

Wedding Budget Saver Tip #3

Wedding Budget Saver #3: If you exchange money for a service, put it in writing, whether you're strangers or acquaintances: it's not rude, it's protection for everybody, the provider and the payee. People can mis-communicate verbally about expectations and not realize it until after the fact. Find out BEFORE the fact, write it down and read it together. That way if there's a "Oh wow, I thought you meant blah blah blah" moment and the other person says "oooh no, I meant yada yada yada", you can discuss it beforehand.

Illustration: if we would have written down our expectations of services & fees with our budding caterer (this was her first catering exp), we probably would have realized that labor + food = $1500 (our mind) was labor ($1500) + food ($1500) = $3000 (her mind). See the difference?? Yeah, the "ahah!" moment didn't happen until we went to pay our remaining $300 balance (our mind) and she was confused that it wasn't $1800. Fortunately, all's well that ends well, it was a mistake and no hard feelings. But hindsight is 20/20. Put it in writing.

Wedding Budget Saving Tip # 2: Prioritize 1-3 areas of your wedding where you want to spend money, be frugal, creative and resourceful with the rest. For me Photography # 1, Food #2, and Dress #3.

Photography: The talented Conrad Erb- Personable, affordable, and encompassed the artsy-journalistic style we love. We didn't break the bank AND walked away with all of our digital negatives to reproduce to our heart's content, no additional cost. P.S. That's me, my hubs & Dad in the bw pic on the homepage.
Food: We asked someone we knew to cater the reception using wholesale stores like Costco. Originally, we came in at just about $11 a head. Due to a mis-communication which wasn't realized until AFTER the wedding, we came in at $16.50 a head. Be sure to read Wedding Budget Saver Tip #3.
Dress: I wanted to love my dress, after all, you want to feel amazing when you walk down the aisle. But I'm a practical jane and really did not want the dress to exceed $500-$600 at the max. I shopped around and explored options. P.S. Occasionally it's ok to take the advice of your maid of honor and try on a dress she thinks you'll like; she might know you better than you think. $350 and I loved it. Thank you Jenn:)

One of my favorite Etsy sellers is ShySiren. I have gone back to that shop over and over and over again, just to look at these pieces made with gunmetal -- The design is so simple and elegant at the same time! I think I'm going to have to make a wish list and then when I reach milestones in my shop, treat myself to something on the wishlist. My first treat was a bar of soap from Savor! I haven't gotten to reward #2 yet, but a bit of jewlery from ShySiren is definitely on the list!

What a Day!

So, my day started famously. Woke up to FOUR Etsy convos, all inquiring about special custom orders which is very good of course. Went to work, discovered they were discarding some fantastic high back stuffed chairs. They're in really great condition. Turns out they are "out dated". hmmmm clearly a Gen Xer did not make that decision. Because the chairs are so "out dated" that they've come in style again! And to my eye, look terrifically mod and classic at the same time. The upholstering is a tiny brown & neutral check pattern, not amazing, but in good condition and will suit fine until I can re-upholster them which given the design of the chair will be pretty simple, just have to borrow the air stapler ;-) They had 9 chairs...and I got 4! Don't ask where we're gonna put them, not sure yet. Someday when we have a house, I'm going to cover each of them in a different color, and they'll be an artistic statement all by themselves, along with an accent pillow.

So now wait, that was just the START of my day! Work day went by very quickly, there seemed to be alot of people in and out and a great spray painting project ( I work in an office in a library... and yet, spray painting, yes.) and before I knew it it was after 3. But now it looks like rain, great, I have the truck but now to get these chairs home. Hmm. Wait? Maybe. Have Tarp? Yes I do! So we load up, tie it down, and at 4:15 it's still not raining - So I head out thinking I'm going to be alright, going towards the hospital to visit a friend on the way home, it's not out of the way, why not. Almost there and it's just beginning to spit alittle rain. No biggie, after all I have a tarp. WRONG. All of the sudden it's a torrential downpour, it coming down at an alarming rate and being to crack thunder and lightening! The wind is beginning to pick up and I'm driving so pretty soon my tarp is getting bigger and bigger in the rear view, oh geez. Now a stop light. Perfect. Reach through the cabs back window, grab that tarp and pull it through slam the window shut to hold it in place. Finally get to the hospital, it's still pouring and it is an all out thunderstorm. At this point I have no idea that there is a tornado watch in place until 6. Fortunately the hospital has an covered drive through at the door. I pull in not a moment too late. Thunder is ripping right over head and now I'm worried if I'm safe or not! The tarp is partially off the chairs so the corner is soaked and I'm wondering now looking at the rope how in the world the tarp stayed on anyway. After about 15 minutes I finally have the tarp back in place and tied down securely. And I'm drenched. Flip flops flooded, pant legs soaked, shirt drenched, glasses wet, now I'm a wreck. Now to go inside to visit my friend and drip water all down the hall way so that everyone there for phys therapy can slip all over the floor. And just as I finish with the truck, the rain breaks, and lets up. Great timing. I visit for a bit then realize it's beginning to rain again. This is when I discover the tornado watch, hmm how about that. I'm thinking it's time to get home before pushing my good graces with the hospital being parked under their drive through and before the weather decides to freak out. It's raining again, but the further west I go the better it gets. It's almost blue skies by the time I get home and now it's sunny again. The hubs isn't home yet, so I in all my superwoman glory, back the pick up up to the door, untie, untarp, and unload those chairs. By now I've earned them lol.

Now I'm realizing that it's almost 6:40pm, hubs should be getting home soon and I haven't done a thing about dinner in the half hour since I've arrive. Good thing we got hot dogs!

And again, my color obsession bites me!!! What do these colors remind you of?? I think of several things. The charcoal and mint blue makes me icey & warm at the same time! I think cool and wintery, yet snuggly! I think favorite soft gray cardigan in January. I think the Maine coast on very cold day with the wind and ocean whipping about. Lol I think Earl Gray Tea with cream! Any way, here they be: my latest color creation ;-)

Fabulous Friday

What a great way to start the day... yes I know it's already 11:49a.m. to be precise. However, I took today off from work to get ahead with inventory for Etsy. So already it was a good plan. Laying in bed with my hubs at 7:45a.m. which was sleeping in for me... when my text notification went off with an Etsy order! That will perk you up! Lol, but one order wasn't enough to get me OUT of bed! lol... several minutes later, ANOTHER text, another order! Ohoh!! Can it be? Two sales in ten minutes? Must be featured somewhere! NOW I get out of bed... grab the laptop, and hop back in bed lol. Hurray for days off;-) -- Sure enough, my Teenies are featured on the Etsy Front Page! Then another text! This time a convo for a bulk order, I like that of course! So I'm working up quote, yes still from the bed, Hubs is putting in his two cents worth of advice about how to run an Etsy business lol, and another text arrives and it's another Etsy order! By now I'm tickled with delight definitely awake:)... And getting hungrier by the MINUTE! And today is payday! I convince Hubs that we should go down the road to the diner for breakfast... which conveniently has a fabulous coupon/certificate deal on Restaurant.com - He was in favor of eating in, and then buying a case of Woodchucks later! hah! I said my idea was cheaper;-D So off to the diner we go and eat the "Belly Buster Breakfast" ! I wish you could see it! Hubs finished his plates (yes, plural plateS) -- But I could only eat half, and the leftovers still looked like a large breakfast! Bluerberry pancakes, toast, sausage, eggs, hashbrowns, juice & coffee for 9.99 -- And I'll probably eat the left overs for lunch.. and dinner! Coffee was a little weak, but maybe I'll pop some more in here at home for myself.
Now that's it's 11:57a.m..... I am about start my day of Etsy inventory and working ahead......

When It Rains.. It Pours!

So even though I already posted once today... and not for WEEKS before that. I realized I had something "blog worthy" to post!

So... do you Twitter? Tweet? Tweetering? I have come to realize that Twitter has instilled in me, in a short time, a very useful capability.

Twitter has gradually been making me a better Facebooker... and in turn oh my, I might finally have a handle on being a better blogger. Or blogger period!

I like twitter because of the character space restriction. Yes, sometimes it's annoying! But, having a limited amount of space means you CAN't spend a lot of time doing it, and makes you think what you REALLY want to say and forces you to get the most direct message in the shortest contents possible. Realizing that I can keep up with Twitter without spending a lot of time has made Facebook AND my otherwise lifeless blog seem less daunting and more attainable. For some reason, I was previously overwhelmed by the thought of "keeping up" on Facebook... or Blogging! Goodness. I thought that would takes hours and I just don't have the time or know what to say.

But Twitter has created a nice habit of forcing me to keep my comments short and sweet:) Giving me more exposure with less time!

The New Plan....

So clearly; I struggle to keep up with my blog. I just can't seem to write about myself! So what I'm thinking is that from now on I might just post my Etsy favorites. I think to add interest my favs will always have a different yet specific theme. Like today, my favs are pillows. I actually tried to list several different favs I created a bunch of different Etsy mini's, would post them and then go back and do another different Etsy mini, not realizing each one would be identical if I changed my favorites. If that makes any sense. I spent an hour creating a plant favs, pillow favs and original favs..... at the end they were all pillow favs . Anyway. Enjoy the new plan!

One Week Since Opening My New Shop!

Alrighty so! I'm excited! It's been one week exactly since I opened up a new shop with a focused interest on colorful paper products for person use and supply use. I even changed up my blog to match. After just one week of being opened, I've sold 5 items and gained 50 hearts! So I think this decision will pay off! The new shop is ThePaperAddict.Etsy.com

I will be keeping my original shop TheHollister25 open for my non paper, artsy endeavors!

Wow it's been so long since I posted!!
Hope all is well with everyone. Life is busy! I've been working hard trying to promote online and offline. As well as trying to create some new products and get some ideas.
I've been busy with Etsy but busy everywhere! too many projects going on. My church is have a great art gallery in a few weeks and I'm helping, organizing and I'm supposed to have a painting done for next Sunday! Yikes! gotta bite the bullet and get to business this weekend.

If anyone is interested; I'm running a Discontinuation Sale at my second shop Http://RandomSuppliesDepot.Etsy.com . I have a bunch of inventory that I want to get rid of to make way for new products & designs. So it's really marked down; journals in funky retro boho designs and hemp -- and blank card sets too! Check it out! :)

More More & More Ice

Here are some more pics from our blissful snow day off from work. My husband and I LOVE to take photo's are working towards starting our own business. Pretty soon you will see some links on my blog to our business website! Our business would be wedding photography... but what we love is more like a photography field trip.... just go somewhere or even just having a camera with you for whenever something catches our eye. Not too far away is a large botonical garden and when I HAD money lol, I used to go regularly with camera in hand just to meander for hours taking pictures. When I met my husband, he didn't know he loved photography! haha but the artist in me watered the artist seed in him and it sprouted! Sometimes I think he's more passionate about it than I am! Actually what it is is that he is the "techy" of the two of us. I see and I shoot, I know my way around my camera to do what I want to do. But when it comes to equipment, upgrades, software, and technical photographer language and equipment; my husband is the man... he knows it without hardly trying! Anyway enough about that! On to the photos!

Burning our Christmas Tree!

So on Wednesday, my husband and I were BLESSED with a snow day from both our jobs. And FINALLY our Christmas Tree came down! lol ornaments were put away, and we drug that thing out of the house, into the yard to the fire pit. The tree was bone dry, needles all over the place. But somehow I kind doubted that the tree would be torched as quickly as my husband thought. I shouldn't have doubted though! Here are the pictures; from small flame to all out bonfire; I think it took 1-3 minutes for the tree to burn to it's skeleton.

As I set about to create this post, I felt um nervous? Intimidated?? This is my first blog... and my first post on my first blog. The first post should make a good impression right... make people want to come back to read again? Since I don't live under a rock I think I ought to know more....and yet I feel incredibly not savy about this blogging business.

What do I plan to use my blog for? Well as my profile says, I'm an artist; so part of the purpose for my blog is to feature my art, my Etsy shops, and also to feature the shops, blogs, and websites of other artists.

What else do people talk about in their blogs? life in general I suppose? all of our opinions? well let's keep it light and simple the first time around. It's going on midnight, New Year's Eve's Eve -- My husband is sleeping... soundly, lol, snoring. CNN is on TV; they're talking about Mr. Obama and Israel.. I should probably be watching instead of blogging. My favorite TV show is Top Chef on Bravo... I missed the first few seasons and can't understand WHY WHY WHY now that they're starting their 5th season why the show isn't available on DVD .

My husband and I disagree over whether Brian Regan is a funny comedian... I think he is HILARIOUS, a true comic, and the best modern comedian out there. My husband thinks he not funny, and doesn't understand his facial expressions or why he walks funny when he's doing a show, but I think that makes him funnier. I compell my hubby to watch Brian Regan DVDs with me and occasionnally he laughs inspite of himself <> I admire his style of comedy because I grew up on the Dick Van Dyke Show and The Andy Griffith Show and later the Cosbys... and I think Mr. Regan is after the old school; proof that you don't have to be foul to be funny. I've listened to the same CD a hundred times... and I still laugh. Apparently it doesn't wear off.

Alrighty, I'm winding down and getting sleepy and nothing else I'm considering writing is making any sense...Anyway that's it for the first post, bear with me folks as I figure out what I'm doing on here. If anyone has good blogging advice for me I'm all ears!!
